Dialogue with the world: round horizon
9/27 (Friday) - 10/6 (Sunday)
Symbol Promenade Park (Flower Plaza)
Engage in 'Dialogue' with over 200 books wrapped in venue-exclusive book covers in Tokyo Waterfront City.
``Flower Plaza'', which spreads out on the south side of the Kokusai Tenjijo Station rotary, is the main area that serves as the entrance to this art festival. "Flower Plaza" will feature an exhibition of the work "Round Horizon" by Noboru Tsubaki, a contemporary artist and professor at Kyoto University of Arts who is involved in nurturing young artists, as well as a talk event. The exhibition space features a 4m tall giant flag drawn by young artist Saki Matsumura and an original dialogue table.
Furthermore, at the venue, books written by writers from port towns and books set in port towns will be lined up wrapped in limited edition book covers. Participants can pick up a blind book and take it home with them on the condition that they "talk" about the contents with someone else, such as a family member or friend. Noboru Tsubaki will also be on stage at the talk event, encouraging communication among participants based on the "dialogue" theme of the day.
[Artist comment: Noboru Tsubaki]
Peace and dialogue appear fleetingly, like illusions, and have contributed to the creation of a great deal of literature, music, and art. I think they give Hinata hope to overcome the huge rocky mountain of reality. This is the secret to not letting my creativity run dry. It's heartwarming to see friends gathering at dusk to talk quietly about the many stories related to the port, beer in hand, and storytellers about the departures of Sinbad and Gauguin.
About the selection of “Round Horizon”
There are 223 books placed under the "round horizon". All of these books, which have book covers with the same graphic as the works, are ``books by authors from port towns'' (including works set in or written in port towns).
You can interact with words from ports around the world.
Also, the first 17 people to visit each day will be able to take home one book each.
The rules for take-home are:
① After you take it home, please have a conversation with someone about this book.
②If possible, please bring the books you have at home and exchange them (even at a later date).
“Round Horizon” Dialogue Event
We will also hold a "dialogue" between the artist of this work and experts who lead various industries, as well as a talk event using this work as the stage.
